War game restart in Korea & UK looks to expand military reach

Published 5 Nov, 2018 21:40

Anya Parampil brings us the latest in the Korea peace process, as the US and South Korea started joint-military drills on Monday. The provocation comes just days after North Korea warned that denuclearization will not be achievable without US concessions, such as the lifting of crippling economic sanctions. Peter Kuznick, Professor of History at American University, joins In Question to assess the prospect for peace on the peninsula. Next Anya reports on UK Defense Secretary Gavin Williamson’s recent announcement that Britain will establish a permanent training base in Oman next march. The announcement came just days after Muscat and London signed a mutual defense agreement, which coincided with the UK’s Saif Sareea 3 War Games in Oman, the largest British military exercises to take place in close to 20 years. Former member of UK Parliament, George Galloway, joins Anya to discuss why Oman is crucial to UK policy and whether or not British taxpayers support this move. Later Anya puts the 17 year old war on Afghanistan into question after the Mayor of North Ogden, Utah was killed in an “insider-attack” carried out by a member of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces – the third such incident to take place in the country this year alone. Anya talks to Walter Smolarek, organizer at the anti-war Answer Coalition, asking what message these attacks are supposed to send the American people.
