Blue ghosts

Blue ghosts

Following the 9/11 tragedy, the US began bombing Afghanistan on October 7, 2001 and the liberation of Afghan women was used as justification for overthrowing the Taliban Regime. Five weeks later, America's First Lady Laura Bush stated triumphantly: "Because of our recent military gains in much of Afghanistan, women are no longer imprisoned in their homes…" But in 2012, we see things have not changed that much: women are still flogged publicly, their freedom has diminished compared with previous periods, and every year, dozens of women set fire to themselves. This state of events begs the question: Why? And, for many, the answer: Because they have no rights.
