Puerto Rico defaults as Treasury yield hits record low

Published 2 Jul, 2016 07:23

The top story: On Friday, Puerto Rico failed to pay nearly a billion dollars’ worth of general obligation debt to bondholders. Ameera David has details. Then, Boom Bust’s Bianca Facchinei reports on Atlantic City, which is also trying to avoid bankruptcy. Nearly 1,000 employees at the city’s Trump Taj Mahal have gone on strike. RT correspondent Marina Portnaya reports on the situation in Puerto Rico, where the territory still faces default despite a rescue law passed in DC. Afterwards, Tyrel Ventura and Tabetha Wallace of RT’s Watching The Hawks explain how major superstars are upset with platforms like YouTube because they claim that the video sharing sites monetize their songs − often without reimbursing the artists.

After the break, Ameera talks about the pros and cons of Brexit for trade with Steve Hanke, professor of applied economics at Johns Hopkins University. And in the Big Deal, Ameera and Edward Harrison discuss what record low government bond yields are telling us about the economy.
