The Russian Navy has successfully conducted a live-fire exercise in the Pacific, using a nuclear-powered submarine to strike sea and land targets with cruise missiles.
The Yasen M-class attack submarine Novosibirsk launched the weapons while submerged during a scheduled drill, the Russian Defense Ministry announced on Wednesday.
According to the report, an Onyx cruise missile struck a simulated enemy warship at a distance of 170 km.
A Kalibr cruise missile was used to hit a land target at the Kura testing range on Kamchatka Peninsula, more than 1,200 km from the launch position.
The 130-meter-long Novosibirsk is the first submarine of the upgraded Yasen-M class to be built in series production.
Construction began in 2013, and the vessel was launched in 2019. It joined Russia’s Pacific Fleet in 2022 alongside the Knyaz Oleg nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine.
