The film focuses on Garry Davis, a World War II veteran who renounced his US citizenship and declared himself a citizen of the world. Davis' ideas opened a lot of problems for him as a person but also aroused a global movement of like-minded people who believed in a world beyond borders and a world beyond war. He inspired support from intellectuals including Albert Einstein, Simone de Beauvoir, & Jean-Paul Sartre.
