Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) said one of its militants was responsible for a deadly suicide bombing in a Shiite area of the Afghan capital Kabul on Wednesday, the group’s Amaq news agency said on Thursday. It has not provided proof, Reuters said. The attacker was wearing a suicide vest, according to Amaq. Afghanistan’s officials said on Thursday that the death toll from the attack, which hit an educational center west of Kabul, was 34 and 56 were injured. More than 1,000 schools across Afghanistan remain closed for security reasons. At least 86 have been destroyed by militant attacks this year alone, the UN said.
